Nergal game.

Design, illustration and animation work for an online citizen science game to understand how people's social networks and decision making change how diseases spread through communities, commissioned by the University of Edinburgh. You can play it online! We also made a high contrast version that can be played through sound alone, so people with little or no sight can also take part. I illustrated the characters, clouds and snacks in ink and watercolour, and the plants and the background elements digitally. I designed the game to be soft, gentle and approachable, given the harsh subject of disease spread and the prevalence of trauma in our societies due to covid. The characters needed to not be recognisable as any particular animal species.

Nergal was used by the Royal Society at their Disability in Technology report launch event (23 June 2025) and showcased at the Royal Society Summer Exhibition launch evening (1 July 2025).
