We have mountains to climb.
Current project in progress!
A little book about finding your way when things have been hard.
Every illustration in the book has been made by etching. I have used zinc plates cut with a lasercutter for more interesting shapes, then etched with nitric acid, with hard ground (a waxy coating that is scratched through with a needle for the linework), aquatint (pine resin melted onto the plate to achieve different tones), white ground and stop out (two types of resist that stop the acid reaching the metal), and spitbite (where acid is painted directly onto the metal). The plates are then printed using linseed oil based inks onto thick textured Fabriano paper with a big old Rochat printing press.
There will be three large A2 etchings that each contain their own narrative, but also work together as a trio to tell a longer story. Parts of these prints will be brought together with smaller etchings in a silent narrative comic book that will be available at the Bristol Artist Book Event, 26-27 June 2026.
